Episode 22: Into a New Era
I recently saw a video of David Attenborough, the renowned naturalist, speaking at the Davos Summit. And he said something overwhelming to consider--that we're at the end of a 12,000 year era of relative environmental stability. And that's allowed us to develop to where we are today--to this highly, interconnected global culture. But now, we're entering a COMPLETELY different era, one in which Humankind has become the predominant force on Planet Earth--the "Anthropocene Era." I contemplated...Where ARE we headed? What does that mean for each and every one of us? How do we remake ourselves for the sake of our lives here on Earth, and all the precious creatures in our midst. Unexpectedly, a clue came to me...in a piano lesson with a 7 year-old student. Her name is Katinka, and she expresses such delight in nature through her music. On one level, there's a key to our future in her innocence and awe--it's one element--that utter us-selfconscious love of life. At the end of this episode you'll hear Katinka's piece, "The Ladybird Song." It's beautiful!
