One afternoon, I encountered a wonderful family on a beach here in Sydney. I realized that they were Spanish-speaking, and so I conversed with them in Spanish - something which I love to do. I learned that they were from Argentina and here on a month's holiday - a very special time for them. When they returned to their homeland, they contacted me. They'd purchased my memoir, In Duet with God, wanting to learn about my life and the very special person I call, "mi madrina," my godmother. The result is that I was inspired to create this podcast. In this episode, I read from my memoir about the diminutive woman from Ecuador who came to care for me when I was eight. Her name is Flora. Reading the story brings me back to why I spent the better part of four years writing about this extraordinary human being. Indeed, her love saved me.
