This podcast is a celebration of childhood, innocence, youthful exuberance, and music--specifically, the joy of creating music with others.
In this case, those fellow musicians are three young girls--students of mine at my little music school.
Their names are Grace, Ava, and Nicoletta, between 7 and 10 years old.
Each week, the three girls attend a piano class in my music studio. In class, each girl sits at her own keyboard. What's wonderful about digital keyboards these days, is that you can be very inventive, and the girls love to choose their own "voices," making their keyboard sound like a sax, or organ, or flute. We create improvised music together (and learn little pieces, too).
Playing improvised music is something I've done in my teaching from the very beginning. In the music you'll hear, we've multiplied that improvised music times four! Each girl is improvising her melodies and rhythms as I give basic directions about the beat and harmonic progression.
When I asked the girls to explain how they feel about creating music, and what they'd like to share with you, the listener,
these are some of the things they said...
"When we play music, we feel joy in our hearts, we feel courageous, like we could rule the world!"
And when I asked them what they'd like to title the music, they all agreed that they wanted to call it, "Passion Fruit Music."
That's interesting, I noted. Tell my why you'd like to give it that name, I asked.
"Because music is yummy like a passion fruit. Because we feel passion for the piano.
And because we are living here on Planet Earth!"
So, dear listener, on behalf of Nicoletta, Ava, and Grace, we hope you enjoy our "Passion Fruit Music."
